Endorsed Nurse Practitioner
Special interests: Prenatal Care, Pregnancy Planning, Geriatric Care, Preventative Care.
Andrena McDonald is a dedicated Primary Healthcare Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of experience.
Andrea completed her general training in nursing at McMaster’s College and soon after, started working in the field. Shortly thereafter, Andrena’s passion for helping others grew immensely and so she went back to school to complete her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing at Ryerson University.
Andrena has worked in various healthcare settings, including working with women, children, and babies from marginalised communities. Andrena noticed these groups face many barriers to receiving the healthcare they need. To assist with reducing these barriers, she completed her nursing certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She held prenatal workshops to educate and help these women gain access to the care they needed. Andrena also worked with communities such as immigrants, LGBTQI, Geriatric, Mental Health, and Adolescents. Andrena has created numerous programs including the Geriatric Outreach program and has been an advocate for HIV anonymous testing.
Throughout her career, Andrena has continued to gain experience in other areas of healthcare and has become increasingly aware that using integrative approaches to health by combining traditional and holistic medicine was the most effective way to promote overall health and wellbeing.
Andrena hopes to use her expertise to further the education of patients, assisting in better managing their chronic conditions to improve their quality of life.
