Stephen Schaapveld

Stephen is a Registered Psychologist with an interest in helping people manage and adjust to chronic health conditions, with a particular emphasis on men’s emotional and physical health challenges.

Overview

Stephen is an experienced New Zealand-trained and registered Psychologist who holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Health Psychology, a Masters of Science in Psychology with First Class Honours, and a Bachelor of Science from The University of Auckland. He is a member of the New Zealand Psychological Society and holds a current practising licence.

Stephen has a broad range of experience and has worked with people from varied backgrounds. Some key areas of focus include; low and depressed mood, worry and anxiety, stress, motivational issues, men’s issues, the struggles and challenges of everyday life, and chronic health issues.

Approach

Stephen works with his patients in a holistic way and utilises strategies from various psychological frameworks. Some of these include; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT).

Stephen’s goal-focused manner helps his patients gain mastery and peace with the issues they are facing in life.

Stephen hopes the time he spends with his clients will result in them adjusting to the challenges life can present and ultimately, leading a more rewarding fulfilling life.
